THE DEVELOPMENT PROCESS OF CALINFI
The Inspiration Behind CALINFI’s Wood-Burning Stove
The idea behind CALINFI’s wood-burning stove was born from an understanding of the challenges faced by outdoor enthusiasts. We saw how traditional camping stoves often caused frustration with their complicated setups and disorganized parts. Our goal was to create a solution that would simplify the experience, providing an innovative and modern design that would meet the needs of those seeking adventure. With a focus on practicality and visual elegance, we sought to bring a fresh perspective to outdoor cooking.
Industrial Design: Combining Functionality with Visual Appeal
The industrial design process was shaped by a commitment to aligning the product with our brand identity, ensuring it is both functional and visually appealing. Countless sketches were created and refined; even those which turned out like tube televisions. Every detail, from the design of the stove handle to the color palette and placement of water bottles was thoughtfully considered to balance functionality with aesthetic charm.
Mechanical Design: Precision Engineering
For the mechanical design, we focused on ensuring the stove’s structure was both robust and efficient. We carefully considered how every component would function, from heat distribution to airflow management, ensuring optimal performance in various outdoor conditions. Our goal was to create a product that is easy to use and multifunctional, while also withstanding the wear and tear of outdoor adventures- making it a reliable wood-fired pizza oven and an outdoor cooking solution.
Prototyping and Testing
Creating prototypes was a key step in turning our ideas into reality. Each prototype was carefully built to test how the stove worked, looked, and felt in use. Through testing and adjustments, we refined the materials, design, and assembly to ensure CALINFI’s wood-burning stove met real-world needs while staying true to our focus on quality and innovation.

What is CALINFI and what does the name mean?CALINFI is a premium outdoor brand inspired by the words Camp, Life, and Fire. Our mission is to develop innovative products that bring people closer to nature while enhancing freedom and comfort in outdoor living. We’re building not just tools, but a lifestyle — centered around exploration, functionality, and community.

Who is behind CALINFI?We are a team of six founders: four mechanical engineers, one industrial designer, and one marketer — united by a shared passion for fire, design, and the outdoors. We’ve spent over a year designing, prototyping, and refining our first product.

Is CALINFI only about stoves?No — stoves are just our first step. CALINFI is structured around three main themes: Camp, Life, and Fire. We plan to launch premium gear for camping, compact living (tiny houses, caravans), and open-fire cooking in the near future.

Where is CALINFI based?Our design and development operations are based in Turkiye, while our global business operations are managed through CALINFI LLC, registered in the United States.

Do you have a physical store or is it online only?We are currently an online-first brand. We’re launching globally through Kickstarter and our official website. In the future, we plan to expand via selected distributors and retail partners.

Do you plan to launch more products in the future?Yes. CALINFI aims to launch at least two premium products every year, expanding across outdoor cooking, camping, and compact lifestyle solutions.

What is ODUN?ODUN is our flagship product — a modular wood-fired stove designed for outdoor cooking and heating. It’s compact, efficient, and perfect for making anything from pizzas to slow-cooked meals while surrounded by nature.

What materials is ODUN made of?Our large model is made from heat-resistant painted steel. The smaller model is built with 316-grade stainless steel. Both are engineered for durability and outdoor performance.

What kind of fuel does it use?ODUN is designed to run exclusively on wood and wood-based materials. In the future, we plan to develop versions that support other fuel types.

Is it portable? How much does it weigh?Yes, ODUN is fully portable. The large model weighs up to 25 kg, and the small model weighs up to 15 kg. These figures may vary slightly depending on final production specifications.

Can I cook different types of food on it?Absolutely. While ODUN is often seen as a pizza oven, it can be used for a wide variety of dishes. We're also developing special oven-safe containers for slow-cooked meals. For now, pizzas and similar baked foods can be ready in just a few minutes.

What accessories or modules are included?We're currently developing and planning to include: Top grill module Water heating unit Pizza peel Wooden cutting board Carrying bag (for the small model) New accessories are also under development.

Is the cast iron grill removable or replaceable?Yes — the grill is designed to be modular, removable, and easy to clean or replace.

How long does it take to heat up?Heat-up time depends on the fuel and environmental conditions. You can track internal temperature using the built-in thermometer on the oven.

How do I clean and maintain the stove?We recommend emptying the ash drawer after each use and cleaning the glass panels using ash. For the painted model, avoid contact with water and do not store it outdoors. We’re also working on cleaning accessories to simplify maintenance.

Can ODUN be used in windy or cold weather conditions?Yes, it’s designed to operate in cold and windy conditions. For optimal performance, ensure you use dry wood, preheat the chimney pipes, and keep air vents open during ignition. A proper chimney setup is essential for consistent burning.
